Muraho! It’s so good to be back. We were struck by the familiarity as we descended from the aircraft to walk towards the immigration building. It was pleasantly warm, and the distinctive aromas of Rwanda were in the air…

On the journey we had been speculating how much would have changed since we were last here in 2013. It was only moments before we encountered the first differences. The airport has been completely remodeled, and of course the new visa regulations have been implemented. The down side is that the lines are longer and slower, but the welcome is just as warm, and with our pre-approved visas in hand we moved to the baggage claim. Our bags had already arrived, and as we moved out through the new customs area, we were immediately greeted by our dear friends Jean and Chantal, with Phocas, the hotel owner, all come to meet us. It was like a family reunion, and as Jean said a little later as we enjoyed our first Primus in the Civitas courtyard “We have now been family for five years!”

Our love affair with this beautiful country and its people continues…
