Day Number One

After some very long flights (NYC-DC-Rome-Addis Ababa-Kigali OR NYC-Brussels-Kigali), we’ve all arrived!  Last night, we were treated to a home-cooked meal with Stephen Buckingham and his family (lovely wife Alphonsine and three-year old twins Sonny and Shannie).  Today we took a van tour of Kigali and enjoyed the sights of the city, including several local weddings, the American embassy, the memorial for Belgian UN soldiers and President Kagame’s home.  Tomorrow we will visit a high school in the countryside.  We are eating delicious food (goat brochettes! barbecued banana! sambusas!), and even though we miss our friends and family,  we are all safe and happy.

So glad to hear you are all well! I hope Jason is keeping notes on the recipes! Sounds delicious : ) ! Still suffering from a heat wave here, with thunderstorms predicted on and off all week. Hope you are having good weather, especially with all the wedding ceremonies! Enjoy your visit to the high school. Looking forward to hearing stories of your visits. Sending you good wishes.
    Fondly,
    Kathy

Good to know you’ve all arrived and are hitting the ground running. I like the recipe idea, too if you can grab them (and then figure out where to get the ingredients back home.) Have fun. Pay attention. Work hard. Remember everything.

Lovely to hear from you all! Of course, hearing about the work you’re doing is amazing, but please also keep us updated about the food. 😉
